Through the Looking Glass

We have been reading Alice and Wonderland at bedtime, super trippy. I love these paper cuts by Elista for littlest pheasant's room. Looking forward to seeing Tim Burton's movie version in March.

well hello

When we were little kids, my brothers and I would sneak over to our neighbor's yard and pick their purple crocuses. We got yelled at. If I spot a crocus poking out of anyone's batch of earth I am totally grabbing it. Fair warning. Spring still seems so far away.

Stay Gold

I get Sundance catalogue. I'm not sure why. I've never ordered from them before. This morning I opened it and spied some really pretty jewelry. This is why.

Lovely and Mariefleur

I didn't feel it was my place to add anything on the Haiti devastation. I mean - this is a little design blog, a small voice out there in space. But this article in the NYT today, broke me into a million pieces. And I felt compelled to say - do what you can to help and hug your loved ones tightly.

Brooklyn Museum Trip

It's a cold, clear day as we head out to the museum. Unlike it's flashier big sister The Met, the Brooklyn Museum is quiet and tourist free today. Proudly representing the borough of Kings it stands grandly along Eastern Parkway. Packed with treasures that littlest pheasant is hopping up and down with excitement to see. I love these museum days with her. Just me and my girl looking and pictures and making up stories.
Looking down on the Beaux Arts Court. This is where Lil' Pheasant said she wanted to get married. Because it looks like the palace ballroom from Cinderella. She's right!

Grand chandelier.

Patterned marble (?) floor.

From the exhibition Extended Families. Mylar sculpture by Tara Donovan

My favorite piece in the show "Read Between the Line" by Polly Apfelbaum. I should do a whole post on her delicate work sometime. This piece was a striped sheet that had thin strips of velvet attached in between the lines. Simply said and done.

On the way home. Snacking on crackers on the 2 train.

Cheery Tea Time

OK. I really wanted to limit my posts on pretty things to buy this year. But I just can not help it! (Darn you etsy) Maybe you've seen the ceramics of Ninainvorm before (?) - it's made the design blog rounds. If not feast your eyes on these lovelies. Joyous images screen printed on vintage china teapots and plates. Check out her fabulous blog where you can see some images of her studio space.

Textile love

These amazing textiles by the Japanese design company, mina perhonen make we want to bust out my sewing machine SO bad! Either that or start making some drawings, fast. I find them incredibly inspiring. What should I make? Me and my littlest pheasant are headed to the Brooklyn Museum today, mixing a little business with pleasure. I'll bring along my camera to show you. Have a great day!

tiny blossoms

I love this image from Resurrection Fern. My small vintage flower plates arrived. I want to mix with delicate etched glasses and teeny tiny spring flowers. Can't wait to show you.

Anna and Paul at Wave Hill

Looking back on one of my favorite fall weddings. The VERY talented photographer Erik Ekroth just dropped off a CD of his images and I am in love with them! That image of the bride gazing at up at the groom. *sigh*

You can see more of the wedding on his blog here.

Little twinkle lights

Notice the little lights under the table cloth? First time I've ever seen that done. What a lovely idea for a cake table or card table, especially outdoors at night. Found on Weddings and Cookies who found it on Gourmet.

Color Please

It's too damn cold. Or rather it's been too damn cold for too damn long. I am eating spicy yellow curry and huffing hyacinths right now (the smell of spring). I want heat and color. These gorgeous interiors are at Indian Summer (a powerful antidote to bleary winter) who found them at The Society Inc.

Wedding Crasher Flowers

Phew! Despite being on my feet all day I had so much fun at the Wedding Crashers event. Food was sampled, drinks were sipped, bands and dj's jammed, white dresses and feathery headpieces abounded. I can't help it, I just love weddings and parties and the like. I loved seeing all these couples planning for the big day. I say this to all the brides and grooms now: I know it seems like a lot of hassle at times but try to enjoy the process. I still sort of miss my wedding planning stages. I spied a young bride and her mom chatting and sipping champagne and I tell you I got choked up thinking about being there (maybe) one day with my little pheasant. I know, I know - she's not even in kindergarten! Watch her elope. Between meeting couples, bloggers, stylists and fellow wedding vendors I was able to chit chat with my super talented friend Breck from Sesame Letterpress and Dawn from One Girl Cookies (YUM).

Here are some snaps of the flowers I did for the event. I went super girly with the milk glass. I couldn't help myself. I used luscious pink garden roses, paperwhites, anemones, rununculus, geranium, veronica, fiddlehead ferns, kumquats and raspberry on the branch, light green hydrangea, peach hyacinth, deep purple tulips, black beauty roses, these giant apricot roses and coral and pink spray rose. The paperwhites, hyacinth, garden roses and geranium filled the air with a super heady floral scent.

Thank you to Nicole at Brooklyn Based for pulling off such an awesome event.

Pretty Pretty

Pretty pictures for you on this cold day. I just bought 13 little flower dishes off etsy. I'm inspired. Images by Jo Taylor.
