Are you prepared? Mother's day is coming up (Sunday May 9th). Betsy, my neighbor down the street - baker extraordinaire of Nine Cakes and Breck, the talent behind Sesame Letterpress and I have teamed up to create this super cute present for one who gave you life. This will be my first stab at the Mother Day's Hoopla! (glup).

We are officially taking orders - one cake, one flower arrangement and one letterpress message tag. All for a clean $100. Email me if you would like to order. All Brooklyn deliveries included.

The Knot - Live today!

Good Morning! Exciting news today. The Knot called to ask if I would design something in an usual container for a segment they will be airing today LIVE on their web TV. Uh, yes! I jumped at the chance. I love designing in different and unique vessels.  After I quick perusal in their prop room we settled on the great little test tube set and a distressed vintage wooden tool box. If you are at the computer at 1pm EST today the piece will air here. It will rerun on Sunday and be available on the site for sometime. Here is what I did.

Stillness and Big Thoughts

Browsing Etsy tonight and found these peaceful ceramic pieces by DiTerra. So nice.  Hands in clay, plaster, ink and lead to paper, drawing, stitching, painting, wrapping, gluing...these are activities that once consumed me. I am so thankful tonight. So grateful to be working with my hands again. So many things to create. Thank you for being here and checking in with me from time to time. I feel my world expanding.

Peonies on a Rainy Day

Just back from a site visit in Cold Spring. Despite the rainy and dreary weather I was blown away by the gardens at this private home. Astonishing. I am looking forward to sharing the images with you soon enough. In the meantime here is the bouquet from a wedding last weekend. Be well.

Blues and Greens

Hello everyone. Things are heating up here. We are officially riding the wedding train and I am pumped. What a gorgeous day yesterday was for a wedding! We did 2 lovely events, one at the Bryant Park Grill and the other at the Foundry in LIC. Side note: How cute is LIC?! I am not very familiar with that part of Queens (originally being a northeast Queens girl). I was super intrigued. Funny, no matter how long you live in this city you never will know it all. Anyway, things were moving fast and I did not get the best photos of the tables. Hoping to get some from the photographers soon. Here's what we did for the Foundry. Blues and greens, casual and elegant bbq dinner catered by Blue Smoke. The smells coming from the kitchen were ah.mazing.

Bridal bouquet. Lots of goodies in here...two types of garden roses, parrot tulips, sweet peas, muscari, scabiosa pods, ferns, fritillaria, gerarium, and other things I forgot...

Massive Dogwood in urn set in the old forge.

Hair and Makeup

A very big thanks to Susan over at Florali who turned me on to these incredible images of the Omo People of Ethiopia. Thank you! I love them. I can't believe I've never seen them before. Talk about creativity and expression! Doesn't it look like so much fun to do? Really incredible. I believe these photos were taken by the German photographer Hans Silvester. You can find lots about his work online.

Kinda reminding me of the hair design in Anthropologie's March catalogue...

The Study of Plants

I picked up some postcards when I was at the BBG. I love these vintage photos of school kids visiting the gardens by Louis Buhle. Check out the lovely details on the clothes.

"Cotton, Flax and Barley" October 11, 1919
"Vegetable Crop Bag, Dorthy Kirchner," January 9, 1926
Super cute dress and embroidered bag. I had this hair cut at 6 years old - inspired by another Dorothy, Hamill that is...
"Elephant Ears, Norman Haas," April 4, 1923
Great wide striped collar.
"Study of Plants," December 10, 1927
Terrific tweeds and argyle socks

True Love

I needed a break and I had a rare moment alone. So I headed out to a neighborhood cafe for a coffee with a new copy of Elle Decoration in hand. There I spied a very normal looking Lauren Ambrose (aka Claire from Six Feet Under) having a bowl of soup. Love her. But the real life drama was going down between a young couple sitting next to me. While flipping pages, I overheard what I thought was a regular date actually turn out to be a break up. He was trying to reel her back in but it was clear she was done. Basically telling him he is too private and maybe should just get a dog. Early in the conversation he showed her his vintage watch and explained how he enjoyed winding it every morning. Said it made him feel connected and grounded. He liked that it was never truly accurate. The girl was baffled by this and thought he was nuts. What a clear sign they are not made for each other. But he could not see it and said he'd consider getting a dog. Oh love is blind. On a happy note, bouquet and boutonniere for a couple who are made for each other (this I know to be true). Congrats A and M!

Pink Explosion

Yesterday I got a little back tour of the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. Wowza, is all I can say about the cherry trees this year. Unbelievable Dr. Suess craziness. Those in better rush out and see them soon. Due to rains and those couple of 80 degrees days everything is blooming 2 weeks early!

Consider this Behemoth

Hello all. We're back in the real world after being completely submerged in the artificial. My husband and I kept a keen eye open the whole time hoping to spy a crack in the magic facade. Nothing. The place is spotless. I can only imagine the hundreds of little mice that emerge after hours to sweep and clean the place. They have the whole experience down to a science the minute you park the car in the lot. I did want to show you this monster of an arrangement.  I saw it at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort while we waited to dine with HRH Cinderella. It was HUGE. This is what you get when you need your flowers to last and last and last and last and last and last and last ....

After all the money spent, the long lines in the blazing sun and junk food was all worth it to get this one photo. I would do it all over again.

Wishing on a star

I'll be taking a little vacation tomorrow. Resting up and visiting my Grandma (94 years old!) in sunny Florida. We return early next week and then it's weddings, weddings weddings!!! Oh and we are also stopping off at "the most magical place ever" according to one very excited little girl.
Talk soon xo

What's that smell?

No one told me that this crazy alien looking, Fritillaria imperialis smells like just Cannabis Sativa! Holy moly, the whole studio wreaked like a college dorm room. I personally was not offended by the skunky stench, but my husband couldn't take it and begged to have me remove them. No way! They cost me a pretty penny and looked so great in my green vintage ceramic. Don'tcha think?
