Sheila Hicks
At some point during this crazy spring we are taking a trip to Philadelphia. One - because I love that city, Two- my husband has never been there and Three- I MUST see Sheila Hick's 50 year retrospective at the ICA. She is an artist who so beautifully mixes mediums and blurs the line between art and craft. My kind of lady. Don't miss it.

hello sunshine
Fellow flower lovers, so sorry I have been MIA. My head has been seeking inspiration and gearing up for a busy spring wedding season. How have you been? Are you still with me here on this journey?
Here's what I have been up to:
First, a HUGE thank you goes out to Brooklyn Bride. I am beyond thrilled to be named the winner of the Modern Tablescape Design Challenge. YAY! I was honored to be included among such talented fellow competitors.
Last week I made the mistake of "popping" into Strand Bookstore. And by mistake I mean, I did not have a lot of time to waste. Yet precious hours passed by as I strolled the aisles, leafing through their vast collection. At one point I had in my arms around $300 worth of books. I was absolutely certain I needed every single one. But I came to my senses and whittled it down to a couple, vowing to return soon.
If you are not familiar with Strand, let me tell you it is a masterpiece of a place. Opened in 1927, it is still a family owned business with a collection of over 2 million used and new books and occupies 55,000 square feet of space. You can literally spend all day there if you are a book lover like me.
It turned out that I desperately needed a day like that. I wandering, wondering, discovering day. I use to have those days all the time...before baby, business and household....blah, blah, blah.
Some of my finds included a book on Redon. (10 bucks!). I was never a big Redon fan in school. I always considered his work too surreal for my taste. But then I got hooked on the flower pastels and from there I am admiring his color palette. Particularly the use of primary red and blue, which I always find difficult to combine.
I have been puttering around the new apartment.
and outside enjoying the sunshine.

To Ponder
I need to think about a project. And yet when I sit in front of the computer I busy myself with boring admin work. Did I tell you I am making a master excel spreadsheet of all my vintage containers (thrilling)? My fingers started to itch as my hands lay idle. Some left over bits plus this fuzzy succulents called to me. That and the need to go out to lunch.

Oh My Darlin'
I have been meaning to tell you about this lovely little flower shop I stumbled upon when I was visiting the Bay Area. It's called Clementine (how cute is that!) and located in Oakland on College Ave. Natalie the owner was the nicest as she let me snap some quick pics of her light filled shop. Love meeting fellow flower people!
Among fresh flowers, you can pick up stoneware and mercury glass, wonderful weathered wire pieces, sweet smelling candles and pretty paper goods. Check out their flicker site to see more goodies and make sure you stop in if you are in town. It made me yearn to expand my business and open my own retail shop...and then I will really go nuts.

Let it Shine
Feeling good today people. It's sunny out, I was awoken by kisses by littlest pheasant, I collaborated with some very talented ladies yesterday and I have a bag of jelly beans on my desk. And the best thing ever happened! I tried on a new bathing suit I ordered and looks good (!). Have an awesome day.

Fruit Punch
Sunday we did a wedding at Galapagos Art Space down in Dumbo, Brooklyn. The flowers brought the only real color to the dark and dramatic space. I am loving this punchy color combo of pink and orange. I just can't seem to get enough of it. I wanted something modern yet not to stark - they still had to have movement and feel relaxed. I was so happy with the results.Enjoy!
I actually had a hard time giving up these Sarah Bernhardt peonies. They were heavenly.
Can't go wrong with a pure peony bouquet.

Style Me Pretty!
Erik Ekroth just sent me over some of the photos from Nicole and Michael's fall wedding at The River Cafe. Gorgeous photos! I was so thrilled to have it featured on the ever awesome Style Me Pretty. To die for tree peonies in Nicole's bouquet!
