Ink Wells

In collage I took a painting class with this teacher who made us learn calligraphy. I was always too impatient to get it right. Therefore I am in awe of others who excel at it - like the talented Leigh Wells. I love these ideas for seating place cards and table numbers. Perfect. I found her work through Small Stump.

Wheat Wreaths and Paper Birds

I am in love with the this wedding over at 100 Layer Cake. Everything is gorgeous and looks so effortless. Such talented people all round. But what I am really lusting over are these amazing wheat wreaths and paper birds decorating the restaurant's ceiling. Next time we visit the in laws in San Francisco I am bee-lining it to Suppenkuche.

Cut Paper Tree Book

So as I wander around (clicking around rather) seeking inspiration and motivation I stumble upon the amazing work of British artist Su Blackwell off this great blog Slim Paley. She has work included in Slash: Paper Under the Knife, an exhibition currently up at the Museum of Art and Design in NYC. That's what I need, a museum visit! You have until April 2010 to catch it. I'm so there.

Classic Fall

I just got the photos back from a lovely autumnal wedding in October. I am loving the way the orange pops on the navy blue. The photos are so saturated! We nestled little lady apples in the centerpieces. The photographer is Aaron Almendral.

Moody Blues and Grays

I learned about this lovely exhibition in Portland Me. titled Come Darkness, curated by Maria Alexandra Vettese via Lena Corwin. To make you dream about winter days, white light and cloudy skies. I wish I could beam up to Maine and see all these works. Ideas are swelling in my head and I am pressed for time and out of focus. My irritation mounts. I am second guessing myself and that is the worst. When my creative desires get out of whack, I need to repeat my little mantra and say "stay close to flowers". Somehow this calms me and I know new art will follow suit. pretty please. Ok, vent over.

Here is the new logo for my handmade "things" enterprise (haha). Since I am having trouble settling on what exactly I will be selling...wreaths, decor, prints, crafty projects, art...I thought "things" covered it all. I decided against "goods" because it sounded too official and reminds me of bags of barley and bolts of fabric (which I will not be selling). And "do-dads" was too much of a mouthful. Can I boast that I hand drew the border and tweaked it in Photoshop all by myself?! Silly but a big deal to me. My husband was laughing that I have my logo and tags ready before I have the work finished. He just doesn't get it. Sometimes getting your packaging together helps push you forward. Right? Or am I just working backwards?

Fancy Headbands

I don't know what is prettier these gorgeous headbands or the photo styling? I wish my littlest pheasant would would wear a headband! Right now she is into the wild child look. A Field Journal created them for Project Wedding. Click here for instructions on how to make one. Maybe, I will make one for when she is older? Add it to my ever growing list of "things I'd like make list"

Laurel

You may or may not know I have a love affair with Greek and Roman art... decorative objects, glassware, urns, jewelry (ooh! the jewelry) the list goes on...as evident from my post back when. Anyway, this is made of gold plastic leaves of all things. Still working on the little label. Not sure about it.

Cotton Wreath

The holiday's are quickly approaching and I've been busy working away on some seasonal decor. I will be debuting some wreaths soon. Here is a little preview - raw cotton in the pod wreath tied with a satin ribbon. I will finally be posting this and other little nature inspired decor on my brand new etsy site - so please stay tuned! If anyone is interested in the meantime (things always take longer than I plan!) email me for information. I will ship.

Harvest Moon

Orange unique and black beauty roses, dahlias, scented geranium, red cosmos, smoke bush, burgundy scabiosa, pink astilbe, bittersweet and sweetgum branch. Loads of pumpkins and gourds. Lovely details. And yes, I carved their initials on a pumpkin...well, Christine got it started.

Moss Under Glass

The other week I received a special package from a dear friend who lives on many acres of woods in Western Mass. She sent me two ziplock bags of the most amazing mosses and baby ferns. I am so happy with the terrariums and succulent arrangements I threw together. They are brightening up my storefront window right now. I hope they last! Happy Monday all.

Stars on the Ceiling

The chuppah was made of birch poles that I had cut to size beforehand. It was attached to a simple metal structure. Green amaranthus simply hung down the sides. It was perfect for the weathered and worn interior. Isn't that ceiling amazing?! The lighting at the Angel Orensanz is incredible, it totally transforms the place. The escort table was a large arrangement of spirea (aka. bridal wreath) in an urn.

Soft and Romantic

The reception was in whites, blushes and pinks. Fluffy peonies, garden roses, nigella, dusty miller, tulips, geranium filled the main centerpieces. The tables also included little moss filled cylinders with white cymbidium orchids, mercury glass filled with fragrant herbs, succulents and moss and grape vine spheres. The whole table was aglow with mercury glass votives. Magical.
